Bullying has evolved from the days of after-school fistfights or shakedowns for lunch money. In keeping pace with today’s technology, bullying has gone cyber— It can take place on social media, messaging platforms, gaming platforms, and mobile phones. It is repeated behavior, aimed at scaring, angering, or shaming those who are targeted.

Examples:
•spreading lies about or posting embarrassing photos of someone on social media
•sending hurtful messages or threats via messaging platforms
•impersonating someone and sending mean messages to others on their behalf.

People of any age can be cyberbullied, but it happens most often to adolescents and teenagers. Its consequences can be just as serious as the effects of bullying that occur in person. Cyberbullying is never the victim’s fault. If you’re being bullied, you can deal with it by blocking the bully online and reporting the incidents to an authority figure.

If you’re being bullied, don’t respond to the bully’s messages, save the evidence of cyberbullying, Block the bully on all online platforms. Just ignore the bully. Once they see that they can’t get a rise out of you, they are likely to stop harassing you.
You can get outside help, tell a trustworthy adult that you’re being cyberbullied, talk to your school administrators, report the bully to your service providers and social media sites, or contact law enforcement for cases of severe bullying.

Stop Cyberbullying Day is an international awareness day launched by The Cybersmile Foundation on June 17th 2012, to promote online positivity and good digital citizenship.Since then, every year on the third Friday in June, Stop Cyberbullying Day has become a growing force of positivity. The day brings together public figures, non-profit organizations, brands, governments and educational institutions who speak out against cyberbullying and abuse of any kind to defend the human right to freedom of speech and mutual respect. People show their support for the day by using the #STOPCYBERBULLYINGDAY hashtag on social media along with their message. Stop Cyberbullying Day brings together people from all corners of the globe to show their support for a positive and productive online environment.
